When our COVID-19 restrictions eased from level 4 down to 3, the relative freedom allowed a trip locally to photograph birds. One of our rewarding spots is the Rotorua lakefront at Sulphur Point and Sulphur Bay. After a few weeks restricted to my backyard bird hide it was great to get out and watch the ducks, geese, shags, swallows and dabchicks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The dabchicks were especially impressive with far more than we usually see in this spot. At one stage there was a flotilla of 14 bobbing in front of me. Conditions were bright but diffused so great opportunities for some low angle images.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
