We have been having to sit on this exciting news for the past couple of weeks but the Zinio edition<\/a> of D-Photo<\/a> has been published so I can now share the excitement. Edin is home for her mid year break and has been working at the surgery with us and came to me obviously excited saying she had been sworn to secrecy but had to share that she had been phoned and told she had won the Nature Category and then gone on to be chosen as overall winner of the Sigma D-Photo Amateur Photographer of the Year 2014 competition. Her winning image was of a Western Cattle Egret in breeding plumage taken against the sky at Midlands Saddle and Trout during our trip to South Africa earlier this year. Technically this was a challenging image to achieve and required careful metering and manual exposure so it is great to have it recognised. I’m looking forward to borrowing some of the gear she will getting as prizes!  Adrian Hatwell, editor of D-Photo, wrote “Edin should be especially proud of that prestigious title, as competition this year was the fiercest we have seen in the award’s history. The total number of submissions smashed all previous records, culminating in 5783 images received …. Not only did we see a staggering increase in participation, but the overall quality of entries also shot up.”<\/p>\n

The magazine is available on Zinio.com<\/a> for NZ$6.50 as a single issue or in hard copy for $10 if you’re in New Zealand.<\/p>\n
