One of the joys of nature photography for me is wondering at all the possibilities of life. Exploring the macro world has raised my awareness of a multitude of smaller life forms and their interactions. The tangled webs of the world and how all things are interconnected brings me joy and deep comfort in reminding me of the insignificance of my life in the great scheme of things. As humans we overestimate our own importance and walk roughshod over things we are unaware of or attach little importance to. Fortunately there is a small turn in tide against demolishing ecosystems in the name of progress and improvement and restoration work is happening to improve wetlands, estuaries and other ecosystems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My foray into nocturnal macro photography has opened my eyes to new habitats, ecosystems and wildlife that I have, until now, largely passed by with little appreciation or understanding. I live next to a large forest of varied habitats with 100s of kilometres of mountain-bike trails that I love and ride most days. I now appreciate it on a new level and can simply wander over the road at night and wonder at all the wildlife I find. Most of them are hidden in the day as they provide a food source for my birds but at night they come out to play and prey on each other!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
