Nikon often gets bad press on the forums for denying and then poorly addressing concerns with new products. The D600 sensor dirt issue was\u00a0a\u00a0recent problem\u00a0that took longer to deal with than it should have, so it is nice to be able to report a very positive experience. Those who have been following the news since the launch of the D810 will be aware of the long exposure thermal noise issue as outlined \u00a0by Nasim Mansurov of Photographylife in this post<\/a>. Nikon promptly acknowledge the problem,\u00a0developed a solution and published a Service Advisory as reported\u00a0in this post<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Having got a good deal on trading my D800 with Carters Photographics<\/a> in Tauranga, I picked one up this weekend and, as expected, a quick search of the serial number on the\u00a0Nikon NZ Service advisory page<\/a>\u00a0on my iPhone confirmed that it needed the service. Part of the trigger in picking it up this weekend was that I knew I would be travelling up to Auckland so would be able to drop in to Macalisters, the NZ Nikon agents, on Monday. I knew that it was a quick job and was hoping they would be able to do it while I waited but was pleasantly surprised when I asked if that was possible to be told “it will take about 7 minutes, have a seat”!<\/p>\n

Within the promised 7 minutes, I had my camera back with the work done,\u00a0the new C firmware installed and all my custom settings intact. Big thanks to Nikon NZ for perfect service. Also very happy to recommend Carters who have a good range of stock and are great to deal with.<\/p>\n
