After a rainy Christmas Day, Boxing Day dawned sunny and bright prompting a middle of the day walk at Lake Okareka. Conditions didn’t look encouraging for photography but there is always something so the Nikon Z9 and Nikkor Z 180-600mm f5.6-6.3 VR had to come for a walk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the saying goes, every cloud has a silver lining and on this occasion the silver lining was a brief period of nice diffused light with every cloud passing across the face of the sun. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

First opportunity were the profusely flowering waterlilies and I was lucky to find a nice specimen with a pair of mating damselflies. <\/p>\n\n\n

As the walk continued opportunities continued to present and I was lucky to coincide some with passing clouds. Tui feeding in the flax are always a good subject and offered up a few different images.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Final subjects under a passing cloud were a couple of Black Shags.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Morals of the story – bad light isn’t bad all the time and it’s always worthwhile taking a camera for a walk. The world is in flux and good things happen if you’re prepared to take the opportunities when offered and keep your eyes open to the possibilities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
