After disembarking the Polar Front at the end of our Arctic adventure we had most of another day to spend in Longyearbyen. Again the bird opportunities at the dog yards were the most convenient option. <\/p>\n\n\n

The real challenge for this final day was dressing for a cold windy day in Longyearbyen but being prepared to fly back and land in a hot Oslo. This meant dispensing with the merino underlayer resulting a chilly time in Svalbard conditions but still being hot on the flight and on arrival. <\/p>\n\n\n

There were a steady stream of Common Eiders to practice flight shots and watch for preening activity.<\/p>\n\n\n

The Barnacle Geese were numerous with some still incubating and some with freshly hatched goslings.<\/p>\n\n\n

An interesting find were 2 leucistic Barnacle geese, one appearing pure white and one with a couple of pigmented feathers<\/p>\n\n\n

Walking back up to the Base Camp to catch our ride to the airport we encountered a Snow Bunting singing loudly from a purple perch on a snow machine cover. A fitting farewell from an incredible Arctic adventure. My next images would be from a hot and sunny Oslo.<\/p>\n\n\n
