{"id":1895,"date":"2014-12-21T16:28:00","date_gmt":"2014-12-21T03:28:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tonywhitehead.com\/wildlight\/?p=1895"},"modified":"2014-12-21T16:28:00","modified_gmt":"2014-12-21T03:28:00","slug":"knysna-birds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tonywhitehead.com\/wildlight\/archives\/1895","title":{"rendered":"Knysna birds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Because of all the local\u00a0spring and summer activity it&#8217;s been a few months since my <a title=\"Knysna\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tonywhitehead.com\/wildlight\/2014\/09\/knysna\/\" target=\"_blank\">last post<\/a> from our South Africa trip. I will need to focus on finishing this travelogue as it is approaching a year since we were in South Africa! I will try and get a few posts up over the Christmas and New Year break to make up for the one I missed this past week due to a hardware glitch necessitating a very slow data restore over USB2 instead of Firewire. All sorted now with additional storage to accommodate next years images.<\/p>\n<p>We had got as far as Knysna and were staying for a few days at <a title=\"Under Milkwood\" href=\"http:\/\/www.milkwood.co.za\/under-milkwood-knysna-self-catering-chalets-and-bed-breakfast\/\" target=\"_blank\">Under Milkwood<\/a>\u00a0as a base to explore the area up as far as Storms River Mouth. This put us very close to a lovely spot on the lagoon for Knysna birds and a brief drive had us settled next to Woodbourne Pan enjoying the range of birds and photography opportunities they offered. Edin and I would head there every evening and again on our final\u00a0morning before leaving. Evening light was ideal as we could sit next to the road but a little down the embankment so our silhouettes didn&#8217;t break the skyline and we had lovely warm light from the setting sun behind us. There was a good\u00a0range of birds, from a Fish Eagle who I managed to locate after hearing his call, to numerous waders, Herons,\u00a0Egrets and Ducks (Cape Shoveller and Teal).<\/p>\n<figure
