{"id":1933,"date":"2015-01-01T10:46:48","date_gmt":"2014-12-31T21:46:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tonywhitehead.com\/wildlight\/?p=1933"},"modified":"2015-01-01T10:46:48","modified_gmt":"2014-12-31T21:46:48","slug":"happy-new-year-fireworks-composite","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tonywhitehead.com\/wildlight\/archives\/1933","title":{"rendered":"Happy New Year &#8211; Fireworks composite"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Wishing everyone a safe, happy and productive 2015.<\/p>\n<p>The weather forecasters unfortunately were completely accurate with their predictions for a damp New Year&#8217;s Eve. 11:45pm saw a shower moving accross Lake Rotorua so plans for photos of the firework display changed a little as I elected to stay in the car and photograph through the windscreen rather than start the year by getting\u00a0wet. The weather obviously played a bit of havoc with the timing of the show as the fireworks were intermittent instead of the normal sequenced display. I normally enjoy looking for reflections of the show in the lake but the wind and rain eliminated this option so my plan B was to catch individual frames and composite them into one image.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1936\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1936\" style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.tonywhitehead.com\/wildlight\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/FireworksComposite_D3S4561-web.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1936\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.tonywhitehead.com\/wildlight\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/FireworksComposite_D3S4561-web.jpg?resize=800%2C533&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Happy New Year 2015\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.tonywhitehead.com\/wildlight\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/FireworksComposite_D3S4561-web.jpg?w=800&amp;ssl=1 800w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.tonywhitehead.com\/wildlight\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/FireworksComposite_D3S4561-web.jpg?resize=300%2C200&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1936\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Happy New Year 2015<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>All images were taken with the Nikon D3s, Nikon 24-120 f4 lens, ISO\u00a01600 1\/10s f4, processed in Lightroom to achieve deep blacks with colour\u00a0in the highlights and then opened as a 6 layer stack in Photoshop. Canvas enlarged to 200% with a new layer filled with black moved to the bottom of the stack. Individual firework layers moved to achieve the composition I wanted and then blend modes set to lighten.<\/p>\n<p>A long planned\u00a0ambition\u00a0will materialise\u00a0in the early part of the year and I look forward to sharing some different images in the coming months.<\/p>\n<p>Stay safe, be happy, marvel at the natural world around us and protect it in any way you can &#8211; every small difference you can make, counts.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Wishing everyone a safe, happy and productive 2015.
