{"id":2001,"date":"2015-02-01T10:45:43","date_gmt":"2015-01-31T21:45:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tonywhitehead.com\/wildlight\/?p=2001"},"modified":"2015-01-23T21:28:27","modified_gmt":"2015-01-23T08:28:27","slug":"seeberg-hide-langebaan-lagoon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tonywhitehead.com\/wildlight\/archives\/2001","title":{"rendered":"Seeberg Hide,  Langebaan lagoon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After visiting Geelbek and Seeberg as described in my previous post, we took the short detour to the Seeberg hide on the shores of the Langebaan lagoon. Both tide and light were wrong but we saw some Greater Flamingoes feeding along the shore so we planned a quick trip for\u00a0the next morning before breakfast and then heading back to Cape Town. Waking\u00a0early\u00a0saw us greeting\u00a0the sunrise as we descended the hill to the gate into West Coast National Park. We arrived before opening time but had a group of Cape Spurfowl to amuse us as we waited. The woman at the gate recognised us and my rusty Afrikaans from\u00a0the previous day and we were soon on the track to the hide &#8211; seeing a Black-shouldered Kite and a Rock Kestrel warming themselves in the early sun. Lifting the viewing flaps on the hide revealed a good number of waders and Greater Flamingoes feeding along the water&#8217;s edge in great early light. The time passed far more quickly than we would have liked and we were soon having to head back to be in time for breakfast but on the way back to the car had to stop briefly to photograph a Cape\u00a0Grassbird which is reminiscent of our closely related New Zealand Fernbird with very similar plumage and tatty tail feathers.
