Moeraki Boulders<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Moeraki Boulders are another iconic New Zealand landscape subject so we stopped for a night on heading north from the Catlins en route to the Maniatoto. It is always impressive to see the spherical concretions but it has unfortunately become a regular stop for tourist buses so there are often crowds swarming the area and climbing over the boulders.<\/p>\n

The state of the tide also has a big impact on photography options and on our arrival neither the crowds nor tide were conducive to photography. After checking into our Hampden motel we made the short drive back as the light was fading and the tide had come in a little further. This gave opportunities for long exposure shots to smooth out the water and emphasise the boulders. <\/p>\n

My aim was to process the images as monochromes and used Skylum Tonality with the Gelmertype preset as starting point as with the Nugget Point<\/a> images. Interestingly the image works well in colour too with soft pastel hues which suit the smooth textures.<\/p>\n
