Stuck Lens Filter Removal Hack

Stuck photography lens filters are a common frustration and there are a few tricks to solve the problem. Often it is just a matter of not gripping too tightly as this distorts the filter ring and jams the threads. On this occasion I tried all my usual tricks, most of which are outlined in this post from Fstoppers. None worked and I don’t have a filter wrench so I had to figure out another plan. A rubber band (blue in the photos) and 2 zip-ties did the job easily so I thought I would share this technique.

Place a rubber band around the filter and then connect 2 zip-ties and tighten around the rubber band
This provides even circumferential grip and leverage to untwist the filter

Zip-ties (along with duct tape) are useful inclusions in any emergency kit and this is another use for them.
