One of my hopes had been to see and photograph Ivory gulls, a small white gull restricted to the high arctic. As luck would have it, as our Polar bear was approaching an Ivory gull flew across the bow of the ship calling. I managed to locate it in my view finder and grab a short sequence of images before returning to the approaching bear.
Once we had moved on from the bear we came across the remnants of a predated Ringed seal that was being cleaned up by Glaucous and Ivory gulls.
Ivory gull sightings weren’t very common and they didn’t approach our ship so it was a challenge to get any really close images and this ended up being our best opportunity of the trip.
